I'm not a guitar player, so this is a little bit unrelated to that but I decided to create some instruments for a little bit of fun. I just want to create something like guitar effect. I've tried to make DAWs, but I've decided to spend too much time on that part. So I'm asking if I could use oscillators to create some sounds. I'll tell you how I want it to work, and what I'm working on: One variable oscillator (I'll use MIDI to control it), that will cut off the sound to 0.5 seconds Multiple frequency oscillators (chords or melodies), that will have decay Dynamics (attack, sustain, release) So, you can notice that I'm not asking for making a real instrument. I'm just asking if some of that kind of thing can be done by software. How hard is it to make such kind of a thing? And what type of oscillators would you suggest? A: What you describe is pretty much exactly what many guitar-related DAWs (such as Samplitude) do, so I don't think you'll find much difference with a standalone-app approach. The approach you suggest should work fine. After all, you can't really do a proper patch without envelopes, and with enough oscillators, you don't need to add individual channels for each channel. Each oscillator can be split on the frequency axis and thus have independent decay and sustain with at least three oscs (which would be two voices on octave oscs and a unison voice on an osc with a very high octave). With that, you only need to control the attack, decay, sustain and release as your "guitar effect". As mentioned in my comment, this can also be programmed with a very large table for the envelope data and a simple loop to update it in time with your instrument. If you can do something similar in software, then I don't think there's much difference in performance. Also consider that software instruments usually don't have a hard drum-mellotron analogue emulation, but just use the sample set from the application, which can make them somewhat more palatable ( 595f342e71
